Zimbabwe Advances Fiscal Planning and ICT Innovation
Bulawayo — The Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre in Bulawayo continues to bustle with activity as the Pre-Budget Seminar for the 2026 National Budget enters its third day. The event has drawn strong institutional representation and participation from all provinces, underscoring Government’s commitment to inclusive fiscal planning that reflects national and local priorities alike.
During the ongoing seminar, discussions have also focused on the country’s digital infrastructure development strategy. Information, Communication, Technology, Postal and Courier Services Minister Hon. Tatenda Mavetera revealed that the planned full-scale technology park at Sunway City will be scaled down due to resource constraints.
“While the full-scale technology park in Sunway City remains part of our long-term vision, we are adopting a phased approach given the current fiscal space,” said Minister Mavetera. “In the meantime, a Mini Techno Park will be established at the Main Post Office in Harare to provide a vibrant innovation hub for young people, startups, and innovators across the country.”
The Mini Techno Park is expected to serve as a public innovation hub, expanding access to digital tools, supporting ICT startups, and promoting entrepreneurship in the growing technology sector.
Meanwhile, Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda revealed that international partners have shown interest in supporting Zimbabwe’s ICT ambitions.
“We are pleased to note that Google, following discussions with its Vice President, Mr. James Manyika, has expressed willingness to fund the ICT Centre at Sunway City,” said Advocate Mudenda. “The facility is envisioned to become a SADC Regional ICT Centre of Excellence, positioning Zimbabwe as a digital hub in the region.”
Minister Mavetera reaffirmed Government’s continued commitment to developing world-class ICT infrastructure, adding that the collaboration between the public and private sectors remains central to achieving Vision 2030 goals.
“Government is engaging Treasury and international partners to ensure that our ICT programmes are adequately supported. Our focus remains on creating opportunities that empower Zimbabweans through technology,” she said.
