Participants to the Chitepo School of Ideology skills impartation workshop being held at the ZANU PF Headquarters have expressed their excitement at the programme.

At least 20 women from various zones in Harare are receiving training in knitting, weaving, beading and sewing among other skills aimed at making them earn income for their households.

Speaking on day two of the training programme, Chitepo School of Ideology lecturer Major Rtd Barbara Chiguta noted that there is a high level of excitement amongst the participants.

“I am very happy to see so much excitement amongst the participants most of whom did not have these skills before. I am also grateful to the Principal of the School Cde Munyaradzi Machacha for affording me this opportunity to share these skills with the participants. It is also an honour to have the participants appreciate these skills that I am teaching them.”

Verna Kwinje (47) who is learning crocheting said this is an opportunity to further an already acquired skill.

“I was taught by my grandmother this skill because she said jobs can come and go but if I learnt hand crafts I would be able to make money even outside employment. I am excited to be here to learn how to make different designs and want to make dresses professionally.”

Janeth Nhapi (45) said “this is my first time to acquire this weaving skill and my excitement comes from the fact that I have seen many products done from this type of art.”

79 year old Marsellinah Mamundo disclosed that she is doing this course in order to ease the burden on her children.

“I looked after my children through sewing but I am here to increase my knowledge and to be able to pass on these skills to my grandchildren. I also do not have to burden my children by constantly asking for money and this keeps me from being idle.”
