Members of Parliament took turns to swear allegiance to their country and the laws governing Zimbabwe in Harare today.

Doing so in alphabetical order and with a Bible in hand, the Parliamentarians swore loyalty to Zimbabwe, to work faithfully for the people of Zimbabwe and to observe the laws of the country.

Speaking on the commentary section during the live broadcast on ZTV, Advocate Fortune Chasi and former Minister of Energy and Power Development said “Members of Parliament need to understand the Standing Orders of Parliament and would under Section 128 of the Constitution would elect the Speaker of Parliament. The Speaker of Parliament would need to be someone who would bring fairness and balance.”

He added that the use of the New Parliament Building in Mount Hampden was ideal given the increased numbers of Parliamentarians.

The Members of Parliament among them Mberengwa Central, Mberengwa East and Mberengwa Central were keen to share that some of the issues they would advance in their Constituencies would be on provision of clean water, roads and improving the livelihoods of their people.
