ZANU PF Key Resolutions Explained

The Government of Zimbabwe has started to implement key resolutions. These resolutions come from the ZANU PF 21st National People’s Conference held in October last year. Among the most notable decisions is the unanimous endorsement of extending President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term beyond 2028. This resolution aims to guarantee the continuity of his transformative development agenda. It has sparked widespread discussion about its potential impact on the nation’s future.
The ZANU PF conference addressed several critical areas. These areas include economic growth, social services, and infrastructure development. They also cover value addition, climate action, and the preservation of liberation war heritage. Delegates emphasised the importance of aligning these priorities with the country’s long-term vision for sustainable development. A key highlight of the conference was the resolution to extend President Mnangagwa’s term to 2030. This decision recognises his leadership in driving national progress.
Justice, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi highlighted the grassroots-driven nature of these resolutions. He explained that decisions are made collaboratively, starting at the cell level and advancing through district and provincial consultations. This bottom-up approach ensures that the voices of the people are central to the party’s policy direction. Once resolutions are adopted, they are communicated to the relevant ministries, which initiate the necessary actions to implement them.
The resolution to extend President Mnangagwa’s term requires a constitutional amendment, which will follow a well-defined legislative process. Minister Ziyambi outlined the steps involved, starting with the development of principles for Cabinet approval. Once approved, the Attorney-General’s Office will draft the Bill, incorporating input from nationwide consultations. The Cabinet Committee on Legislation will review the draft. It will then be tabled in Parliament for gazetting and debate.
Minister Ziyambi emphasised that these processes are designed to uphold transparency and reflect the will of the people. He noted that ZANU PF’s resolutions are collective decisions that represent the priorities identified by Zimbabweans at all levels. This approach ensures that the government’s actions align with the aspirations of the citizens it serves.
Although President Mnangagwa has publicly expressed his willingness to step down after his second term ends in 2028, delegates at the conference unanimously supported the resolution to extend his tenure. They argued that his leadership is essential for maintaining the momentum of ongoing development projects and achieving the country’s ambitious goals.
As the government embarks on implementing these resolutions, it reaffirms its commitment to driving economic growth. It enhances social services and fosters sustainable development. ZANU PF has decided to pursue a constitutional amendment to extend President Mnangagwa’s term. This decision underscores their confidence in his leadership and vision for Zimbabwe’s future.
