In a wake-up call for the yellow-branded political party which thought that the coming in of Zambian
President Hakainde Hichilema would influence the course of election results in Zimbabwe, the newly
appointed Zambian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, says his coming in is aimed at further strengthening
the ties that lie between the two countries.

The ascendance of President Hichilema resulted in frenzy by the opposition circles as pictures of
Nelson Chamisa along with that country’s leader were awash in the media. The narrative then had
been if Zambians could do it, then Zimbabweans were also able to follow suit.

Unbeknown to the opposition, relations that would follow between President E.D Mnangagwa and
President Hichilema would grow strong.

In a recent Twitter post by the Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet of Zimbabwe,
George Charamba, tweets “Three Presidents, one Vice President cuddled together. Who are they
and what do you think they were discussing? Epic moment wasn’t it?”
If at all President Hichilema was so engrossed in the petty politics the CCC displays in Zimbabwe,
there was no way that he would cuddle in this picture. That petty kind of politics is resulting in
Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume being on the firing line for signing a twinning agreement with Minsk.

However presenting his Credentials this week, Zambian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency
Derrick Livune noted that the strong ties between the two countries date back a long time.

“First of all it is important to know that Zambia and Zimbabwe share a long time relationship as two
sister countries and my coming is to further strengthen the relationship that exists for all of us,” he
said.

“We must be grateful to our forefathers and indeed the governments that have been around and of
course ourselves so that we must continue this legacy of promoting this relationship that we have.”

Zambian Ambassador added that the trade agreements which exist between the two countries will
move forward, issues of culture and social existence between the two peoples.
