Zimbabwe War Victims Association donates to the disabled children living in Harare.

It was an early Christmas for the disabled when the Zimbabwe War Victims Association donated basic commodities to the disabled children living in Harare.
Speaking during the donation secretary for the veteran of the liberation struggle cde douglas mahiya commended the new dispensation for the role it is playing in alleviating the plight of the disabled.
‘The President and First Secretary of ZANU PF Cde E.D Mnangagwa grew up where there were disabled people hence his desire and committment to have their issues addressed through the policy on the disabled which was not there until the New Dispensation,’ Cde Mahiya said.
‘the proverb ‘seka hurema wafa’ shows that we must be empathetic with the disabled. It reminds me of the biblical story about the young child who was born disabled and people were asking who had sinned. The response was that it was meant to show the glory of god.’
Cde mahiya took time to appeal to those attending to defend the sovereignty of the country by defending the vote.
‘we are coming from different places where by-elections will be held and we must defend this country through the vote. What we must know is that war is a result of the many problems which were never resolved which is why we went to war. Before independence the colonizer had no regard for the disabled.’
Cde mahiya took time to request the ministry to consider the plight of the war veterans whom he said needed counselling in order to deal with the pains and wounds of the war.
‘we need counselling clinics in order to address the trauma that many are suffering. This gesture will show that we care for those that fought to liberate this country from colonial rule.’
A representative from the ministry of public, labour and social welfare in the department of disability affairs William chorumacommended the Zimbabwe war victims association for working with the ministry to improve the living conditions of the disabled.
‘we are happy and grateful to the association for realizing that the department exists and working with it. We help provide wheel chairs, assistive devices and clutches to the handicapped and disabled. The disability policy was launched in june 202 by the president of Zimbabwe and it recognizes the rights of the disabled. We have schools which offer education for the disabled among them the Beatrice rehabilitation centre and the ruwa national rehabilitation centre.’
The national chairperson of the Zimbabwe war victimsassociation vongai mutokoti said the association had gone beyond assisting war victims.
