HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reaffirmed ZANU PF’s commitment to national unity, economic development, and the preservation of Zimbabwe’s sovereignty, as he addressed the 381st Ordinary Session of the Politburo today.
Opening the first Politburo meeting of 2025, President Mnangagwa underscored the importance of reflecting on critical issues affecting the party, the nation, and the broader Southern African region. Key discussions included the ongoing cell verification exercise and preparations for Zimbabwe’s 45th Independence Day celebrations.
Honoring Departed Heroes
The President expressed sorrow over the recent passing of several national heroes, including Major General (Rtd) Solomon Siziba, Cde Chenhamo Chen Chakezha Chimutengwende, Ambassador John Shumba Mvundura, Cde Justin Mupamhanga, and Cde Tinaye Elisha Nzirasha Chigudu. He also paid tribute to former Namibian President Sam Nujoma, describing him as a Pan-African icon and revolutionary leader. A moment of silence was observed in their honor.
Advancing the Liberation Legacy
President Mnangagwa emphasized that Zimbabwe’s liberation history remains a cornerstone of the country’s development trajectory. He reaffirmed ZANU PF’s commitment to a people-centered approach to governance, highlighting achievements in infrastructure, agriculture, mining, tourism, human capital development, and ICTs.
“Our progress has been built on unity, resilience, and a firm commitment to uplifting the livelihoods of Zimbabweans. We must remain steadfast in implementing policies and programs that reflect the progressive, nation-building character of our party,” he said.
Defending the Party and National Interests
The President warned against external forces seeking to undermine the party’s unity and the country’s sovereignty, stating that neo-colonial influences must be firmly resisted. He urged ZANU PF structures to remain vigilant and reject divisive narratives aimed at destabilizing the party.
“Any efforts to distort facts or sow discord will not succeed. We must expose and reject political grandstanding and those who seek to weaken our revolutionary foundations,” he stated.
He called on all party leagues – village, ward, district, and provincial – to strengthen national consciousness and promote unity, aligning their activities with the Vision 2030 development agenda.
Strengthening Party Structures and Membership Growth
Commending the ongoing cell verification exercise, President Mnangagwa urged party structures to remain diligent in addressing discrepancies and to work in unison to expand ZANU PF’s grassroots membership.
“The growth of our party must be built from the grassroots. We must ensure that all structures are fully coordinated to maintain our dominance and continue serving the people,” he said.
Economic Growth and Agricultural Success
Highlighting economic progress, President Mnangagwa praised the agricultural sector for its resilience, reporting an anticipated bumper harvest due to favorable rainfall and successful farming programs. He lauded the dedication of farmers and stakeholders for exceeding planting targets for maize and other crops.
He also recognized Minister of Agriculture Dr. Anxious Masuka for receiving top honors at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, noting that the award affirmed Zimbabwe’s success in agricultural policy implementation.
Empowering Youth and Women
Reaffirming the party’s commitment to youth and women’s empowerment, President Mnangagwa outlined new initiatives aimed at fostering opportunities through international partnerships. He cited recent agreements signed with South Africa and Rwanda in the area of youth affairs as part of efforts to create economic and leadership prospects for young people.
Regional Peace and Security
Turning to regional matters, the President acknowledged efforts by SADC and the East African Community in addressing instability in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He stressed the need for peaceful resolutions to conflicts and Zimbabwe’s continued advocacy for regional stability.
“We must always promote dialogue and cooperation as a means of securing lasting peace,” he said.
Call for Unity and Hard Work
In closing, President Mnangagwa reiterated that unity, peace, and development must remain central to Zimbabwe’s progress. He urged all citizens to contribute to nation-building through hard work and patriotism.
“Brick by brick, stone upon stone, we are modernizing and industrializing Zimbabwe. Through unity, we are overcoming challenges and restoring our national dignity,” he declared.
With a firm call to action, the President encouraged the Politburo to continue guiding the party with discipline and dedication, ensuring ZANU PF remains the leading force in shaping Zimbabwe’s future.
