ZANU PF First Secretary and Zimbabwe’s President, His Excellency, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa says Zimbabwe has demonstrated that it is a mature democracy.
This he said during his inauguration at the National Sports Stadium in Harare this Monday, where thousands gathered to witness their leader sworn into office another term.
His inauguration follows a successful victory in the 23 August Harmonized Elections beating 10 other Presidential contestants.
“As Zimbabwe we have demonstrated that we are a mature democracy. The people of this precious nation which is born out of the sacred blood of those who fought for our independence, freedom, democracy and indeed the right to vote, have spoken,” President Mnangagwa said.
“Our unparalleled conduct before, during and after the electoral process is praiseworthy and will be an everlasting standard and benchmark as we continue to deepen and entrench constitutional democracy in our country. There are no losers, but a victory for the people of Zimbabwe against neo-colonial and hegemonic tendencies of our country’s detractors and those who believe that ‘might is right.’”
In past elections violence marred the process as some opposition political parties attempted to discredit the will of the people. This year’s elections were however, violent-free as the people heeded to the call by President Mnangagwa to observe peace.
