We will continue cementing bilateral relations: VP Mohadi

In continued efforts to cement the already existing ties between ZANU PF and the Communist Party of China CPC, the new Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency, Ambassador Zhou Ding paid a Courtesy call to the Vice President and Secondary Secretary of the ruling Party, Cde Rtd Col Kembo Mohadi and the Secretary General Cde Obert Mpofu at the Party Headquarters this Tuesday morning.
Speaking during the meetings, Vice President Mohadi said the long-standing relationship between the two Parties is based on the fundamental principle of mutual respect, solidarity and support for each other’s core interests.
“We welcome and acknowledge cordial relations between the two countries Zimbabwe and China. The two countries enjoy bilateral relations of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Over the years our relations have been strengthened through exchange visits between the citizens of our two beautiful countries. Such exchanges reached climax with the reciprocal visits of our Presidents,” Vice President Mohadi said.
“China has over the years supported Zimbabwe in the face of political pressure, isolation, stigmatisation as well as economic strangulation from the West. Harare has unflinchingly supported the One China Policy.”
He enumerated the various developmental projects undertaken by the People’s Republic of China among them the Robert Mugabe International Airport, Hwange 7 and 8 Thermal Power Expansion project, New Parliament Building, NetOne Huawei Broadband Expansion Project Phase 3 and the National Pharmaceutical Warehouse among others.
Cde Mpofu also spoke about the timely intervention during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the training programmes.
The PRC made efforts then to provide the Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines to help Zimbabwe acquire herd immunity at a time when the country’s detractors had forecasted COVID-19 related deaths to total at least 30 000.
“We also recall how during the COVID-19 pandemic you came to the rescue of our beloved nation at a time when the world was being ravaged from this deadly scourge,” Cde Mpofu said.
“The continued strengthening of our bilateral relations and economic cooperation between our two Nations cements our friendship and reaffirms our Party ZANU PF’s commitment to the broadening and strengthening of relations with the CPC.”
In his remarks, Chinese Ambassador reiterated his country’s support to Zimbabwe and the ruling Party, ZANU PF.
“It is an honour and pleasure to visit your offices and convey our support for the strong bilateral relations between our Parties. We look forward to working with you in the future as we strengthen our Party to Party relations,” the Chinese Ambassador said.
He added that the over 100 projects his country has embarked on in Zimbabwe are a show of love to the people of Zimbabwe.
The Ambassador was accompanied by the First Secretary Sun Binghui and the Chinese Counsellor Zhang Yi.
