AFRICANS MUST TELL THEIR OWN STORY: PROF MUBAKO

By Margaret Kamba

Institute of African Knowledge INSTAK Chairman Professor Simbi Mubako says it is the duty of Africans to tell their own story and not depend on others.

INSTAK is an institute which seeks to raise awareness, publish and disseminate knowledge of Africa and the African people. Some of its projects include the Book of African Records, Africa Fact Book and the Museum of African Liberation.

Speaking in Harare recently, Prof Mubako noted that there are many African achievements to celebrate.

“The books and the museum are INSTAK’s efforts to give Africa a voice with which yo tell its own story. Africans must not expect Europeans and Americans to continue to write African history on their behalf. The duty to tell our children and the World of the exploits of Africans and the wealth and beauty of our land, of the progress and potential of our societies, the duty to interpret African culture and to project the African personality fls on Africans themselves,” Prof Mubako said.

“The museum of African Liberation is an overdue project to build a monument to the greatest Pan Africa achievement of the twentieth century- the liberation of the continent from European colonial domination. The museum will house the stories and artifacts of the battles and the wars of liberation fought and won by several African countries co-ordinated by the African Union. The museum will be an enduring monument of liberty, a fountain of knowledge and an everlasting source of African self-esteem.”
