ZANU PF Secretary for the War Veterans League Cde Douglas K Mahiya says there is a need to redefine the term Comrade as it is being misused.
Speaking in an interview to commemorate the Heroes and Defence Forces days, Cde Mahiya noted that many are taking advantage of the Party for their own gain.
“This is the month after 40 years that the Party has remembered its force and converted the liberation organs of the two parties against imperialism ZANU and ZAPU and their military organs ZANLA AND ZIPRA has been transformed to become an organ of the Party ZANU PF which will be known as the War Veterans League,” Cde Mahiya said.
“It is historic in that 40 years after independence war veterans have been re-engaged to play their role as the force behind driving the aspirations of the Party to revolutionary victory.
“This is the month that Zimbabwe usually celebrates heroes, remembering those who died during the liberation struggle. The nation would want to know that there’s need at some point to define the title Comrade.
“The War Veterans League puts it correctly as one who could not give anything to the Party to achieve its objectives to liberate this country but what he offered was his life. So the war veterans gave their lives because they had nothing more to give as opposed to today’s same meaning to say one who has joined the Party and is in the Party to take advantage of the Party for his advantage.”
