ZANU PF Secretary for the War Veterans League Cde Douglas K Mahiya has described the late National hero Brigadier-General Benjamin Mabenge as a man who left no room for failure.

Speaking during an interview, Cde Mahiya said the War Veterans have lost one of their own who left no room for failure.

“Cde Mabenge is one of those people who contributed in building up one of ZANLA’s biggest contigent of 5000 forces that went for training in Tanzania. He trained them and it is this contigent group of fighters that was called Songambeli which is Swahili and means push back. It was this group that was responsible for pushing back the Rhodesian forces to their barracks,” Cde Mahiya said.

“It really happened that when that 5000 was redeployed the British felt the pinch and invited our two revolutionary parties to a conference at the Lancaster House in London and finally independence was delivered.”

Cde Mahiya added that the late National hero Cde Mabenge had an “exclusive love for the fighters he was commanding such that he could commit to do anything at his disposal to ensure that he has given the best of his knowledge to defeat the enemy. We will always remember him.”
