ZANU PF Secretary for the Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Cde Douglas K Mahiya says preparations for the inaugural Conference are on course.
Speaking during an interview, Cde Mahiya said a meeting scheduled for the 7th of July at the Party Headquarters will inform on the road map.
“We are starting with a meeting on the 7th to inform the membership of the roadmap leading to District elections. A Technical Committee has already been put in place to undertake the necessary documentation and assist in compliance with the Party Constitution,” Cde Mahiya said.
“After the meeting on the 7th, the Department of the Veterans of the Liberation Struggle will go out to meet bona-fide members and invite them to join the Party as members of the League of the Veterans of the Liberation Struggle.
“This is necessitated by the fact that now that vetting exercise has been done successful candidates would individually decide to be members of the Party. Those who belong to various associations will not be admitted collectively but as individuals from the district to national level.”
Cde Mahiya added that there is “very little time left but all neccessary elections have to be done so that we join others as Congress. Those who missed vetting are encouraged to go to the Ministry’s District offices to get registered as their identities will declare them as bona-fide Veterans of the Liberation Struggle. We are a political Party and we want everyone to come and vote for ZANU PF.”
Speaking on the efforts by the Veterans of the Liberation Struggle to garner support for the ruling Party ahead of the 2023 Harmonized elections, Cde Mahiya noted that “the war veteran component of the Veterans of the Liberation Struggle is constituted by rigorous political orientation and gained skills to mobilize people for the Party. They are the people we need to rely on to mobilize people at the grassroots level they come from. These gallant sons and daughters are there to revive the revolutionary spirit and revitalise the revolution as was the case during the liberation struggle for Zimbabwe.”
He added that the League provides a more democratic way through which social, economic and political issues pertaining to the Veterans of the Liberation Struggle will be listened to and addressed by the President and First Secretary of ZANU PF Cde E.D Mnangagwa who saw it fit to create a Wing.
