The curtain came down on the inaugural Chitepo School of Ideology handicraft course which began early this week.

19 students enrolled to acquire and improve their skills in crocheting, sewing, beading and weaving in order to play their part in contributing to the growth of the economy.

Most of them with no prior knowledge of these skills, expressed their satisfaction at the course which they wished could be extended.

Janeth Nhapi said “if only we could have had more time to learn all the skills and not just pick two.”

Verna Kwinje noted that the good part about the course was that “it keeps the mind busy and can be done even at one’s spare time.”

Patience Tafirenyika said she was “excited about my newly acquired skills and I am that my supportive spouse feels this can bring in extra income into our home.”

Those who shared the news with their friends and family abroad also disclosed the intention to send some of their wares especially with the help made available by Zimtrade.

Their lecturer Deputy Director Administration at the School, Major (Rtd) Barbara Chiguta said during the week long course the “students wanted to learn more, as they were excited with the new designs learnt.”

The students are expected to undergo training in the Basic Orientation Course for another week, which the Principal of the School Cde Munyaradzi Machacha says will help arm them properly.

“The students will undergo a Basic Orientation Course before graduating so that they know how important their country is because it is pointless to empower a man or woman who is not patriotic.”
