AMBASSADOR ROFINA CHIKAVA PAYS HOMAGE TO NAMIBIA AMID ZIMBABWE’s 42nd INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATIONS
2 min readZimbabwe’s Ambassador to Namibia, Mrs Rofina Chikava has paid homage to Namibia for being an all weather friend that has firmly stood with Zimbabwe since the liberation struggle.
Delivering her speech at the Zimbabwe independence celebrations in Windhoek today, Chikava highlighted that Zimbabwe and Namibia have a long history that back dates to the liberations struggle.
In 2021, Chikava said, the two countries renewed their bilateral relations strengthing their relations.
“Zimbabwe is indebted to Namibia for a wonderful gesture of handing over a piece of land to build a dry port. As a landlocked country, it makes it easy to reach our export markets.
She also said that Zimbabwe is gaining ground on the engagement and re-engagement drive.
“This is coupled with calling for the removal of illegal sanctions. My Presidents mantra is “Zimbabwe is open for business,” she said further emphasising that Zimbabwe thanks Namibia as a true which has called for the removal of illegal sanctions on Zimbabwe and supported Zimbabwe on all major international forums.
Chikava also described Zimbabwe’s independence as a special day while at the same time acknowledging the relaxation of Covid-19 protocols as one which made celebrations possible.
“18 April is a special day for us where we honour those that died for us to attain our liberation. I am grateful to President Geingob for relaxing the Covid-19 protocols that has allowed us to gather and commemorate our day. Both our government and Namibia should be commended for mitigating the effects of the pandemic,” said Chikava.
