Zimbabwe continues to register success stories in Covid 19 vaccine management.
The latest is that Zimbabwe government, under the able leadership of His Excellency Dr. Emmerson Mnangagwa, has managed to procure 20 million doses.
These doses are enough for 10 million people.
What is more mesmerising is that Zimbabwe is the only country in Sadc region that is using own funds to procure the vaccines while fellow Sadc member countries are relying on donated vaccines.
Currently, nearly 6.2 million Zimbabweans have been jabbed and government’s target is to inoculate around 10 to 12 million people in order to reach the heard immunity.
President Mnangagwa has been applauded for his robust and exceptional leadership in managing the deadly Covid 19 pandemic.
Critics had anticipated a broken health system with bodies of dead Zimbabweans lying on streets. However, President Mnangagwa and his cabinet showed shrewdness and outstanding leadership by containing the spread of the virus.
So far, about US$150 million has been spent on the procurement of jabs while around $US500 million has been spent on procuring protective equipments, drugs, oxygen, recruitment of health workers and their allowances.
The exceptional management of the pandemic as well as the successful 2020/21 agricultural season have contributed to the rebound of the economy which is expected to grow at 7.8 percent.
