Zimbabweans from all political divide took to social media to hail President Emmerson Mnangagwa for being bold and resolute during his interview with CNN’s Richard Quest over the thorny issue of same sex rights.

CNN’s Quest, who is openly gay, interviewed President Mnangagwa on the sidelines of the CoP26 summit in Glasgow, Scotland.

From word go, Quest tried to bully the President by posing tough questions over his stance on gay rights.

The soft spoken Mnangagwa, a lawyer by profession, schooled Quest about what the Zimbabwe constitution says on the matter.

“I am a constitutionalist. I will not be pursuaded to campaign for something that is banned in our constitution,” stressed Mnangagwa.

Soon after the interview was aired on CNN, Zimbabweans took to social media and lauded their beloved and popular leader, who is known as The Crocodile in polical circles.

“I am not Zanu PF member but on this issue i agree with President Mnangagwa. He was truthful and always reffered to what our constitution says on the matter. He answered very well,” commented Simba Mukabe.

“That is why you are the best President ever. I will always vote for you,” wrote Nkosinathi Vundule Ndlovu.

Another facebooker answering to the name Michael Muradzikwa wrote: “Well spoken Your Excellency, i am 100 percent behind you Sir. We want a God fearing nation which brings his blessings on us . Zimbabwe God’s own country for real.”

“One of its kind God Bless Zimbabwe. And keep the good work Mr President,” wrote Alisha David.

Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa returned home on Thursday to a thunderous welcome at the R.G. Mugabe Airport in Harare.

Despite Zimbabwe being on punitive sanctions for over 20 years, President Mnangagwa has worked so hard to put the economy on rebound.

Unlike in the past, today, issues of food shortages, fuel scarcity, blackouts, water shortages among other crucial amenities are fast becoming issues of the past.

Zimbabwe’s economy, according to World Bank and IMF, is expected to be the fastest growing in Africa.
