While his detractors are busy spewing nonsense in rallies and on social media, President Emmerson Mnangagwa is already dozens of steps ahead of them as he has focused on delivering the promise he made to Zimbabweans about bringing economic liberation.
Latest news, in the quest to revamp the economy and take Zimbabwe to another level, is that Eureka Gold Mine, which was closed down 20 years ago, has been recommissioned and is now fully operational.
This follows the take over of the mine by Dallaglio Investments in 2018 which injected over $50 million dollars into new equipment, structures for its staff and rehabilitation of roads within the mine complex.
The reopening of the gold mine is a testament that President Mnangagwa’s economic policies are now bearing fruits.
Good news about the refurbished gold mine is that already it has employed over 500 direct staff with other thousands set to benefit indirectly.
The mine situated in Guruve District, Mashonaland Central Province has deposits reported to be worth over US$1billion.
Mining sector in Zimbabwe contributes 70 percent of the country’s export receipts.
Last year, President Mnangagwa launched US$12billion mining roadmap.
The roadmap envisages gold to contribute $4billion to the economy annually while platinum, chrome, iron, steel, diamonds, lithium and coal are expected to contribute a combined sum of $8billion per annum.
While it is too early for President Mnangagwa to claim victory for delivering major promises he has made to Zimbabweans thus far, it is fair to say the country is indeed on road to recovery as industries are booming, roads being built and repaired, housing units and flats also being constructed at larger while agricultural production is at its best for the first time in 20 years.
The road to realising President Mnangagwa’s vision of making the country a middle income economy by 2030 started with strong waves but now the ship is steady and the Captain knows what he is doing.
