Wheat farmers in Zimbabwe are all smiles as they reap fruits of their hard labour.
This year Zimbabwe has registered record harvest numbers compared to previous years.
The farmers are on course to deliver record breaking 450,000 tons of wheat this season to the Grain Marketing Board (GMB).
Zimbabwe needs at least 400,000 tons of wheat annually to meet demand, and low wheat output has over the years forced the country to rely on imports.
With the harvest of 450 000 tons of wheat, the country is set to have a surplus 50 000 tons.
Such is the success story. It is fair to say Zimbabwe is on road to self sufficiency.
Over the years, the country has been importing wheat, an important ingredient for bread making.
Meanwhile, there are queues of trucks forming as far as 10kms long waiting to deliver wheat to GMB warehouses in Harare.
This scenery has not been seen atleast in the last two decades.
Since becoming President in November 2017, President Mnangagwa has put reviving the agricultural sector his top priority.
The reforms and investment in agriculture by President Mnangagwa government has been fruitful as evidenced by higher yields in wheat and maize this season.
Before the nocturnal sanctions by western governments, Zimbabwe was feeding the entire Africa with its robust Agricultural sector.
